Setting up Relay

From opening the app for the first time to logging your first voice note — here's everything that happens before you connect a CRM.

1. Sign in

Open Relay and choose how you want to sign in:

  • Continue with Google or Sign in with Apple — your notes and contacts sync to your Relay account.
  • Continue without an account — a guest mode that keeps everything on your phone only. You can't sync a CRM in this mode, so switch to a signed-in account if you plan to connect one later.

2. Grant permissions

Relay asks for two things the first time it needs them — nothing is requested up front:

1

Microphone

Required to record voice notes. You'll be prompted the first time you tap the record button.

2

Contacts (Android only)

Lets Relay save a matched contact directly to your phone's address book, in addition to any connected CRM.

3. Record your first voice note

On the home screen:

  • Tap the microphone button and start talking — describe who you spoke with and what was said, e.g. “Showed the Hendersons the Oak St listing, they loved it, want comps by Friday.”
  • Tap stop when you're done. Relay transcribes the note automatically.
  • Relay matches the note to an existing contact, or lets you search for the right one if it can't find a match.
  • Review the note and confirm — if Relay heard a date or time, it will also offer to add a follow-up to your calendar.

4. Connect a CRM (optional)

Voice notes work on their own, but connecting a CRM lets Relay push contacts and notes straight into it. Open ⚙ Settings from the home screen and choose Connectors to see what's available.

Note
Without a connected CRM, contacts are still saved to your phone's address book — you just won't get the automatic sync into a system like HubSpot.
